we have lift off

ladies...this place in no joke.
you won't find Yelp reviews or people rating this place...
Not that kind of nail salon...
You want privacy...you want to spend some $$$$ on that spa like experience...??
Look no further than Mars Nail Salon.

It opened last month in the heart of West Hollywood.  It's first outpost outside of Japan..
Just look at the photos on their site of the Tokyo salon.  Amazing.

Sleek and modern decor make way for some of the best nail technicians in the country.
These woman do not mess around. You sit in your own private room with a flat screen TV and headset.  I am sure they have magazines to look at but we are talking about
Vogue and Harper's Bazzar not US Weekly.  Chanel nail polishes a plenty.

Think more Spa then the local, bad lighting and chemical intoxicating nail salon.

Thanks to my girl Helen for telling me about it.

Happy St Patricks Day and screw up your weekend traffic jams LA Marathon!!!

out with the old and bring in some VINTAGE!

Brand new online children's vintage store...!!!!
Waanaki sells pre worn and ready to wear children's vintage.
Also beautiful rugs, quilt's and basket's perfect for your nursery.

Love they mention the benefits of buying vintage for kids...
They grow fast and out of clothes so quickly.
You are helping to reduce waste and lower the overall carbon foot print.

Besides, who does not want their little one to enjoy a pair of vintage overalls??

e-waste recycling

Man oh man....
Cleaning up your house pre-baby can be stressful.  Especially when you are trying to be thoughtful of the environment.  We have all these wires and parts from old Apple products, cameras and cell phones that I am looking to recycle.
I know I can't just throw them in the trash.

Thought some of it would be easy to return to Apple.
Not the case.  They said they take some cables at the store but not everything.  They of course have a great recycle program for computers and iphones...But I am talking about all those damn cables and extra parts they give you that sit in a box for years...

Nationally:
Turns out Best Buy will take the cables and other products.  This was the most convenient and broad based program I found.

Also the EPA has a site devoted to helping you find a local facility.

Local LA:
The department of public works has a program which accepts e-waste on Saturday's only
through their SAFE program at the UCLA campus.  Other locations are also available.

Just trying to spread the word and do my part.
So if you are doing a FALL clean up and have a desk draw filled with wires and chargers click on one of the links above to recycle or donate.

Gone to the pig farm...

Heading to Iowa with my husband to do a wonderful event with Niman Ranch.

If you have never heard of this company. Better click the links below.

Niman Ranch believes in sustainable farming, support of family farmer's and ranchers. The company produces some of the best meat and pork in this country.

Link to farm tour with Iowa hog farmer, Paul Willis.

Can't find a local retailer? You can buy their product online.

I will be posting pictures of me and cute piglets upon my return.

Think Seasonal/Local

What's Fresh Near You?

Living in southern California eating seasonally and locally is less of a challenge then let' say, Illinois. But, you can still do it..or at least grab a few seasonal items from your local farmer's market or grocery store. The Natural Resources Defense Fund (NRDC) is a great resource. They have a feature on their site that you punch in the time of year, what state you are in and it gives you the produce that is local and available to you. Another wonderful resource is Local Harvest. This links you to your local farmer's markets and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA'S) where they can deliver local produce and products from farmers. Get your fingers punching on those computer keys and find out what is fresh near you!

Paper vs. Plastic vs. Cloth?

I must say I love using cloth napkins. I feel like Laura Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie when I wrap up a piece of fruit and tuck it in my purse. I like feeling responsible in/out of my home for my paper/plastic waste. Being "green" has never been easier then using a cloth napkin. I found these photos above from life's a peach on etsy. For plain and simple try these from crate and barrel.
