Clean you Closet. You have visitors.

My dear friend Crystal Meers was featured recently on Jeana Sohn blog series,
"Closet Visit".  You know that friend you have that after you leave them you go buy something they talked about or were wearing?  That's Crystal!!!!

The closet visits showcase interesting and fashionable ladies in Los Angeles.  Crystal fits into that category perfectly.  As she says about her own personal fashion it's a mix of "New England and French new wave".  It also helps that her fiance (himself a dope man of style) is a famous costume designer.  So the two of them are always rocking something killer.

The photos above are two of my favorite from the shoot.  The one with the chunky cable knit sweater and bangles (including the beautiful Hermes) is "very Crystal".

A super talented writer and overall cool person.

Even though she is always super busy!!!!

Love the series...and glad Jeana showcased this lady.

FT in the NY TIMES

One of my favorite actresses on the television screen.  Loved her from the ER days.
Dr. Ross (G. Clooney) and nurse Hathaway?  Come on.  Best Ever.

Currently she is gracing us with THE GOOD WIFE .  If you have not watched the show, you should.  Some of the best writing and acting on network TV.

Sooo I was thrilled to see her in Face Time on the NY TIMES BLOG and MAGAZINE.  This little column is one of the best.  Make up artist Tina Turnbow  interviews actresses (and sometimes other people with interesting professions) on their personal makeup and skincare routine.  It is short and to the point which I love.

Hope you catch up on the Good Wife....but man I wish I could find some old ER episodes.
Hulu??
Enjoy the weekend

Testing--Josie Maran's Argan Oil

So I am a sucker for products.  Trying new things though strict on "routine".

Must have a good moisturizer.

I read about Argan oil and Jose Maran's beauty line so I decided to try it out.

Argan Oil is an all natural product.  It comes from the Argan tree in Morocco.
Rich in Vitamin E,  it is well known across the world to help condition skin both with anti- aging and healing properties.

So why not give it a shot right?  I have been using it for a week.  Liking it.  Have to get over the rubbing oil on your face thing (I love Shu Uemura Oil Cleanser but you wash that off!) ....but skin is looking good.  The oil has no fragrance which I LOVE.  Just a couple drops will do.  Also been putting on my elbows. Can't handle rough elbows.

I totally respect what Jose Maran is doing with her beauty products.  Marketing the Argan oil like crazy. It is in almost all of her products.  So we know she believes in it.

Will keep you posted....

we have lift off

ladies...this place in no joke.
you won't find Yelp reviews or people rating this place...
Not that kind of nail salon...
You want privacy...you want to spend some $$$$ on that spa like experience...??
Look no further than Mars Nail Salon.

It opened last month in the heart of West Hollywood.  It's first outpost outside of Japan..
Just look at the photos on their site of the Tokyo salon.  Amazing.

Sleek and modern decor make way for some of the best nail technicians in the country.
These woman do not mess around. You sit in your own private room with a flat screen TV and headset.  I am sure they have magazines to look at but we are talking about
Vogue and Harper's Bazzar not US Weekly.  Chanel nail polishes a plenty.

Think more Spa then the local, bad lighting and chemical intoxicating nail salon.

Thanks to my girl Helen for telling me about it.

Happy St Patricks Day and screw up your weekend traffic jams LA Marathon!!!

We pause for a beauty update

We pause for a beauty break.
Sorry boys who might happen upon this blog today....

I know I have been writing on my blog at a snails pace.  I do sincerely apologize.  But, the baby is due next month so it's keeping me busy with room and house projects.  However, I did find myself some snazzy new nail colors today.  Thought I would let you know about them and follow up this week with our continued programing.

Manicure:
Sea foam green.  Yes, I went there.  I don't feel like I am fifteen either.
It's not candy apple color.  I swear. And may I suggest only on short nails.
It is a brand new Essie color called ABSOLUTELY SHORE

Pedicure:
The deep green is surprising. Not that weird.
Looks kinda excellent with gold sandals etc.
It's called GOING INCOGNITO

I promise to finish writing about our trip to New England.  I take my posts on our trips very seriously.  I like to get it fully flushed out before putting it up on the blog.  Mama don't mess around with her restaurants and food posts!

So enjoy the summer.  August is already flying by....and it just started!

things I am loving...this week

Beauty Products:
Still a fan of my favorite drugstore moisturizer, Aveeno.

To step it up during pregnancy someone bought me Basq Stretch Mark butter... Only using it sparingly to avoid a budget crisis in my house.

Loving Cargo's blush for summer.  Picked it up at one of my favorite places to spend money, Larchmont Beauty.

Food:
Hemp Seeds.  Got this book 100 Healthiest Foods to Eat During Pregnancy.  I happen to be a healthy eater but some of the information in this book has been informative and helpful.  Hemp Seeds pack a lot of protein among other essential fatty acids.  They really don't taste bad added to Oatmeal or even in a salad.  Man, I sound like such a hippy.

Addicted to Huckleberry Cafe's Cinnamon Loaf.  Sliced and Toasted with cream cheese. Thanks Zoe, you complete the pregnancy cravings on a daily basis.  Best advice on how not to waste fresh bread:  freeze it.  Slice it up, Ziploc it and throw it in the freezer.  Love pulling out a piece and popping it in the toaster.

Fashion:
Never really ventured into the JCREW factory online store...until NOW.  Not so bad. Worth checking out especially for a good deal.

Time to buy a new pair of my favorite overall sneakers.  Can't beat Converse for price and an old school classic.

Bought a great scarf at Jigsaw (here in the US) a year ago during one of their fantastic sales. I am wearing it non-stop.... Similar to this style.

So that's the latest scoop.  Cooking more at home with our fabulous farmer's markets in full glory.  Yes, getting help from the husband which makes it easier...and definitely tastes better!

Have a great short week!!

Sally Hansen Kills it.

So I was reading one of my magazines and saw an add for these Sally Hansen Salon Effects "Polish Strips". I did some googling and only found some girls doing instructional videos on youtube. I am not a "nail" girl. I have short nails all the time. But, with my new hair do I feel inspired to have some polish on my nails.

So I decided to venture out to my local CVS and see if they had hit the stores. I looked all around and was just about to give up hope when I asked a sales associate if she had heard of the product. She was jazzed and told me I had walked right past them. Duh. When showing me the spinning display case she mentioned how all the girls at CVS loved this product. Enough said.

I bought a few different colors because they were already running low. Thought I would stock up in case they became a new favorite product.

Basically they are like these GEL nails that everyone keeps raving about except
A.) you do it yourself and B.)it's $10.50

It's pretty easy. Like sticker polish for your nails. The strips come with a cuticle stick and a mini file. You are all set. It takes some mastering but trust me, it is not hard.

Colors are a little wacky but they do have plain red. I decided to go funky to start and have BLUE ICE on my nails. What's cool is if I hate them by Friday I can use nail polish remover to take it off. The true gem on these is spending $10 verses Gel nails that are $40.

I will keep you posted later this week on how they are holding up.

Favorite Summer Polish

Today's post is by me! My favorite summer polish. Just found this nail polish two weeks ago at Larchmont Beauty. It will be on my pedicured toes until at least Labor Day. It's coral, funky and pinky... looks great with all my shoes!!

My favorite summer polish is Essie's Boat House. Love the name. Make's me believe I am living it up bungalow style on Venice Beach or in a seaside town back East.

RED ALERT: Shu Uemura leaving the USA!!

I found out this weekend (better late then never) that Shu Uemura is leaving the USA!! Like gone, bye bye...no more little boutiques, no more at Barney's or Neimans...DONE! Only place to find it will be online. (Though I was told that Barney's, at least in LA, will have it through the summer). Gina Brooke's former Artistic Director talks about it in NY Magazine. Also a piece in Racked.

Not joking around here people. The Japanese company owned by L'Oreal is pulling out of the US for reasons that no one really knows. I suspect money...like everything that folds...but this brand has been around forever and is LOVED by so many make-up artists and skincare fanatics.

Their skincare line is my treat to myself but mainly a treat for my SKIN!!
Sad there will be no more counter to pop by to see their fabulous display's
or get some FREE samples...

Online shopping for my Shu? Bummed.
