New Store Alert in LA

My drives down third street in west hollywood have once again been useful
I saw out of the corner of my eye a new store!!  Then I get an email from Daily Candy telling me that I should go check it out.  Done.

Chay is the lifestyle store from the ultra cool Chay Wike.  Mom of two little ladies, Chay knows that being a mom and looking good should go hand and hand.

She has created a great store filled with great accessories by the likes of Kathleen
Whitaker and shoes by the ever popular Beatrice Valenzuela.

But really what stands out is Chay's own fashion line.  All this washable silk!
Jumpsuits and trench coats.  Just lovely. I was also told there is some cashmere and leather items on the way.  Her online store will be active after the New Year.

So if you are en route to the Grove from the Eastside or heading to Larchmont Village from the Westside, stop in and enjoy this great new gem.

Clean you Closet. You have visitors.

My dear friend Crystal Meers was featured recently on Jeana Sohn blog series,
"Closet Visit".  You know that friend you have that after you leave them you go buy something they talked about or were wearing?  That's Crystal!!!!

The closet visits showcase interesting and fashionable ladies in Los Angeles.  Crystal fits into that category perfectly.  As she says about her own personal fashion it's a mix of "New England and French new wave".  It also helps that her fiance (himself a dope man of style) is a famous costume designer.  So the two of them are always rocking something killer.

The photos above are two of my favorite from the shoot.  The one with the chunky cable knit sweater and bangles (including the beautiful Hermes) is "very Crystal".

A super talented writer and overall cool person.

Even though she is always super busy!!!!

Love the series...and glad Jeana showcased this lady.

FT in the NY TIMES

One of my favorite actresses on the television screen.  Loved her from the ER days.
Dr. Ross (G. Clooney) and nurse Hathaway?  Come on.  Best Ever.

Currently she is gracing us with THE GOOD WIFE .  If you have not watched the show, you should.  Some of the best writing and acting on network TV.

Sooo I was thrilled to see her in Face Time on the NY TIMES BLOG and MAGAZINE.  This little column is one of the best.  Make up artist Tina Turnbow  interviews actresses (and sometimes other people with interesting professions) on their personal makeup and skincare routine.  It is short and to the point which I love.

Hope you catch up on the Good Wife....but man I wish I could find some old ER episodes.
Hulu??
Enjoy the weekend

It's time to GO!! Grab the kid!!

(top photo: in front of cherry trees in Golden Gate Park, middle photo: Dad and baby waiting for lunch at Boot and Shoe Service, bottom photo: little man Sonny playing on his mat)

Traveling with a baby is fun...and what I mean by fun is,
"HOLY SH-T you have to bring a ton of crap!"
Now some might say travel light...but I am of the people that say:"better safe than sorry".

Car ride...different than.... plane ride.

Car ride...can entail more stuff because you have no restrictions except space.
I was not going camping or traveling to the middle of no where...so I knew if we NEEDED it we could find it.

As I realized quickly,  if you can rent an apartment or score a washer/dryer....do it.
So worth it with a wee little one.

Not going to write the whole list of what we brought..
If ya really want some more specifics on clothes, food, products feel free to email me.

Here are SOME of my MUST HAVES:

LOTS OF WIPES
Huggies

BAGS
Ziploc or just recycle plastic bags from the grocery store or drugstore
when you are in a hotel room or someone's home it is smart to bag a dirty diaper before throwing it away.  You don't want the whole place to...well, ya know where I am going with this....

MY DIAPER BAG
Patagonia Lightweight  Travel Tote (love that it can be a backpack or a tote)

NOT A NECESSITY BUT CAME IN HANDY
Car Bottle warmer

GREAT FOR ANYTHING THAT IS PERISHABLE
Igloo Cooler Bag

BEST ALL AROUND TOY
Skip Hop Owl

EASY ORGANIC BABY FOOD
Earth's Best

FEEDING SPOONS
Green Toys Feeding Spoons (love these)

BLANKET FOR FLOOR OR PLAYMAT
Skip Hop Activity Mat (we just brought the blanket part)

FLASHLIGHT
LED mini (it came in handy when I had to check on the little man)

BEST OVERALL JACKET
Patagonia Synchilla (he has used this since he was 2 months old.  He is wearing it in the top photo with the matching hat)

PORTABLE CRIB
The Go Crib (This one is great.  Takes a few times to master but is a great pack/play option)

hold up...wait a minute...

(Standard Goods)

(RTH via hypebeast)

New finds..
New favorite store's alert...

Standard Goods and RTH

Both insanely creative and just plain awesome.

Standard Goods is your go to shop for the perfect "boyfriend" or "husband" gift.
Or just the right place to buy a gift for the guy YOU WANT to be your boyfriend or husband.  Among many housewares and some clothes are perfectly curated vintage finds, cool new socks(a collaboration with RTH) and a small but fabulous selection of my favorite Aesop products...

RTH has incredible leather goods and gorgeous jewelry.
Also get on the kilt pin bandwagon.  They sell them in all different colors and styles.
Small store...but a must for anyone who has the love for Double RL styling
(the owner Rene worked for them) and looking like you made it back from your cool aunt's Santa Fe ranch with half her wardrobe.

I am smitten and so thrilled these stores represent what LA can be about...smart people bringing unique fashion and style to a city where girls still where Ugg boots in 80 degree weather.

Thanks guys!!!  Your new fan...

VF party and Oscar time

Michelle at Pretty Mommy inspired me to look at the Vanity Fair website for exclusive party pictures.

Some of my favorite people at the party:

Sofia rocking a pantsuit.

Marty....MS....love.

Ummm can we talk about Pharrell playing the drums on a balcony all night??
What?  But he always looks so dapper.  Fact: I was on a plane with him last year.  He has the most insane Hermes carry on luggage I have ever seen!

My favorite Olsen.

Giving major hand claps to Rooney.  I think she is doing her own thing and loving it.
But not even a ring on the finger or a bracelet?  I would have loved one sparkly thing.

Oscar Time

My favorite favorite favorite time of year.  The Hollywood issue of Vanity Fair!!!
Sofia Coppola graces us in the MY STUFF section.
Tried to find a link but it's not up yet...

Just to let you know she promotes her love for friend MARC JACOBS and her use of GLOBE TROTTER for her luggage of choice.

Also saying her SC bag  (which she created for Louis Vuitton) is her "day bag".

I save these issues for years....

Cinch it up...

Feeling these belts from MADEWELL.  I got the blue suede one above (also got a snazzy leopard one that seems to only be available in store).  These guys are helping me out with my current clothes situation.  Baby time has made me re-think most of my current clothing choices.

Speaking of babies..my man is 2 months old.  We are heading to NY soon.  I am sure I will enlighten you all with some baby/food/holy crap NYC with a kid travel post.

Until then have a great start to your December....

FASHION FAV

While heading to Barney's (for a By Terry lip gloss pick me up) I just HAD TO go to the co-op section.  I stumbled upon a brand I had not heard or seen before....L'Agence.
Could I be super out of the loop? Maybe?  I have been dealing with spit up and burps.

I would say the clothes are a Phillip Lim mash up.

Pricey but pretty.  Dresses and other casual pieces.
Check them out...just stunning.

what I am loving..right this minute

Zuckerman's Cherries

Zuckerman Farms is selling their super, incredible Asparagus.
Also just bought their Cherries this Sunday. Amazing.

New favorite pant/sweatpant/ legging type thing...
J.Crew's slim knit pant.  Go a size or two up.
Reminder: I need to go up in size due to baby on the way.
But, I feel they run small.
They are on SALE!

crop it

I am totally into this cropped short sleeve sweater thing for the spring/summer. Did I already wear this look at 16?  Maybe, but it's back and in full effect.  When my girl Rachel Comey is doing it then it's got to be ok.

Free People and Rachel Comey

PS...Rachel Comey's spring/summer line is awesome.  I have no relation to her but would like to so I could get some discounts!

A break and pause from Austin.  I am heading back there next weekend for the Texas Hill Country Food and Wine festival. So there will be plenty of Austin coverage don't you worry.

This weekend a documentary about the fabulous NY TIMES style section photography Bill Cunningham is hitting theaters.  Might not be in your city yet but I hope it finds its way to you.  I literally have had this day marked on my calendar.  I have looked at his style still shots of the streets of NY and PARIS for years.  I now love watching his videos on New York Times site.  His commentary is priceless.

He is snappy, fiesty and funny for a man his age.  The fashion and trends he has predicted and commented on are too numerous to count.  He is a true treasure.

Take a look.  I will quote one of Bill's favorite sayings, "it's a hoot!".

Have a great weekend.

Looks I like this week...on famous people.

I have to say these ladies stood out to me this week from Paris fashion shows to movie premiere's.

Amanda Seyfried can do no wrong is this stunning colorful Lanvin.  I dream of this outfit.  The jewels, the shoes and her hair.  Well done girl.  Little Red Riding Hood watch out!

Hailee Steinfeld was rocking a perfect outfit from Miu Miu.  Maybe a little too mature for her but I LOVE IT.  The shoes, the bag the whole damn thing.

Rose Byrne was looking perfect with her newish haircut.  The outfit is simple but she makes it her own with the red lips.

Dreaming and will be for awhile.

Sofia Coppola designed some beautiful bags for Louis Vuitton.  I have seen one of these top handle bags in the flesh and will say IT IS STUNNING.
Simple yes, but perfect.

She also designed these beautiful clutches.

Sometimes I get wonderful expensive bag hand-me-downs.  I do not complain one bit.  However, I do think that some of the prices are a bit outrageous.  So Sofia and Louis will have to wait.

But, in my wildest dreams I would get a surprise UPS package (or maybe FED EX?) and open the box to see this insanely pricey, wonderful bag that I would cherish forever.  Or I will meet Sofia and she will give me the one she is carrying...That would be a dream come true!

disco or classic?

I am not over sequins.   Especially navy blue ones.  Also, I think this vest is a great investment piece. A unique way to snazz up a black dress.

My main man Phillip Lim knows his stuff.

Post Game Events-Vanity Fair

I know everyone does their Oscar red carpet post game...but my favorite is the Vanity Fair Oscar party.  Look at these fabulous people enjoying the fanciest party of the year!

Haliee Steinfeld belle of the ball.

Jessica Biel and Justin...Cute couple.  Loved her dress.

Can't even handle this cute picture of Jason Bateman

Sandy in all her glory.  Man oh man just think of a year ago.  She really has come a long way.

The woman with the most style, one of my icons, Carolina Herrera.

Hope everyone enjoyed their evening.  I was not too happy with the telecast.  Not blaming it all on James and Anne.  The whole thing was weird.  Sorry, but I have been watching this show since I can remember.  Never missed one.  I could have missed this one.
